PCB Fabricator Down to 3 Mil Inner Layer Core with New DES Line
Saturn Installs Hollmuller DES Line to Address Increasing Demand for Advanced Technologies

Detroit, MI November 27, 2008 – Saturn Electronics Corp., bare printed circuit board manufacturer, added the Hollmuller DES line, capable of processing down to 3 mil inner layer core, to their Romulus-based PCB fabrication facility last week.

Hollmuller’s DES line has separate control for top and bottom spray bars oscillation so inner-layer etching will be reliably uniform. Running at ten feet per minute, the Desmear Etch Smear produces up to 1500 inner layers in 8 hours. As a result, PCB production capacity for inner layer etching has quadrupled.

In addition, the new line is fully with feed-and-bleed to control bare board developing, etching, and stripping chemical concentration as well as high-performance dryers to ensure that the panels are dry eliminating the risk of spotting before the lamination process.

Advanced Bare Circuit Board Technology
Our line was purchased by its previous owner for £1.3 million (approx. USD $2.1 million), installed, and then never run due to a slowdown in the PCB industry in 2002. We, in turn, purchased this line after that company shut down its facility in 2004 for $50,000. Even after rigging, transportation, and re-installation, our total cost is estimated to be less than $300,000.
Passing Savings to the Customer
This line was purchased new in 2002 by a Global Top 5 PCB fabricator for £700,000 (USD$ 1.13 million), but never put into service due to the slowdown in the global PCB industry. We purchased this line from them for only $50,000. Installed, including rigging, transportation, etc., the total cost was still under $200,000.
